Travelling

Though I haven’t go for my Taiwan trip, which is from 19th till 26th of May. I’m already planning for a trip to Korea next May.

It all started over dinner with a cousin, Vivian, last Saturday. That girl went there for a 10 days trip last year. She shared will me how exciting and beautiful Seoul is!

The things which she said that made my jaw dropped (literally)

1) Just right below the place where she stayed, is the Subway! When I shared this with Peiyi (she just came back from there last Saturday night) over lunch today, I told her that I’m not referring to the restaurant but the train station. She squinted at me! -_-

2) The apartment which she shared with 2 other friends is only $30/night/pax! Uber Cheap!

3) Just right opposite to where she’s stayed, are the shopping areas and clubs. You can step out of the club at 3am (feeling high) and still go shopping (feeling high) as the shops there opens till the super wee hours.

4) She managed to take a photo with one of the Running Man host, HAHA!

5) I didn’t know that my cousin knows how to speak basic Korean!

Another possible trip pending for confirmation! A cruise trip (Superstar Virgo) To Redang in August! =)

My love with Xing Wang Hong Kong Cafe

Friends will know that I like to have my meet up or catching up session @ Xing Wang Hong Kong Cafe.

The prices of the food and drinks are reasonable. Not to forget that the place is air-condtioned.

In comparison to Kopitiam, it’s less noisy and clean.

In comparsion to Starbucks, mostly you will be able to get a seat and not have to fight with or tap your feet at the students hogging the tables.

On the gloomy side, they don’t have a branch at Bukit Panjang Plaza!

On the bright side, the nearest one is still within acceptable travelling distance, at Yew Tee Point.

Best of all, one of my buddy, Pei Yi is living in Choa Chu Kang. Therefore, we will usually meet there to talk about work/catch up! =)

I read from somewhere before that friendship is harder to form as you grow older. And I’m glad and feel thankful that back when I was 25, I found myself another great pal! Cheers to our friendship, PY! =)

The first Xing Wang which I had visited is the one in Cineleisure. I was blown away by their Curry Noodles. It’s a shame that they took Butter Sugar Toast off the menu.

Nowadays, I will order Stir Fried Beef Hor Fun!

Will be meeting another good friend, Alicia, for dinner tomorrow! And she asked, “Which Xing Wang will you be endorsing this week?”

Hahahahahaha

Return to Ravnica

As the name suggests, this block brought us back to Ravnica. The last time the story took place in there was back in October 2005. You can imagine our excitement.

I’m proud to say that currently I have 4 out of the 5 Planeswalker card featured in this block, with the last one making it’s appearance in the last set, to be out end of April.

There’s a red spell called ‘Shock‘ in the world of magic. This red spell be able to deal 2 damage to target creature or player.

The belows are called Dual Shocklands due to the fact that one has to pay 2 life to use  the land on the turn that it came out.

These lands actually cost $18 – $20 in the market. With the foiled version commanding @ around $30? (Yup, I have a foiled version of one of those! )

As usual, I’m also collecting the angels featured in this block =)

The Task

Recently, I’ve been tasked to bring Maternal Grandpa for his Cataract Removal Surgery and the follow up appointment.

This brought back memories.

When I was 16, I was ‘summoned‘ to bring my Paternal Grandpa for his haircut, the visits to the family doctor and his medical appointment at NUH. Despite shifted to Bukit Panjang, he still prefers to go back to his ‘hometown‘ @ Pandan Garden to look for his barber.

I must have inherited this ‘being a regular, loyal customer’ trait from him. To sidetrack, I literally ate from the same stall during my 5 years in Secondary School, till the auntie give me extra portion (free of charge). I’ve been using M1 Mobile Services for the past 12 years and Starhub for their cable broadband for the past 6 years.

We share the ‘grandpa and grandson’ secret. I was the only grandson to know that he strike lottery whenever he does and he will give me $50, which is quite alot of money some 10 years ago.

He trust me enough to let me know the password to his ATM card. He always give clear instructions, not to put all the money withdrawn in the same pocket and to seperate them into the different available pockets to the clothings that you are wearing. In case you drop the money, all is not lost! -_-” (I actually did what he asked)

He made me crossed 2 streets to get packets of sugars for him as it’s 50 cents cheaper on the other side. -______________________-

I was always curious, ‘Why Me?’

He has 13 sons/daughters which meant that he also has plentiful of grandchildrens. So why me? I’m clearly not the eldest and wasn’t his favorite at that point of time.

It wasn’t until years after he passed away that I heard from my aunt (his favorite daughter) that he always asked me to accompany him as I will just sit there and wait for him to finished whatever he’s doing and will get things done for him.

When I went to China in 2001 for an overseas trip with my school, he gave me $100 and packed some chinese medications for me, in case I were to fall sick along the way. His only caution was ‘Do no buy any herbs or medicine in China, as majority are fakes!’

He was a great cook. He makes the best Tau Suan, Mee Hoon Kuey and Glutinous Rice. Sadly, none of us inherited his skills.

Anyway, I will never have thought that after 12 years, I still have a chance to do this. Just that it’s a different grandpa this time. Haha =)

The theme is Retrolicious.

A gift from a good friend =)

Gifts from good friends need not be expensive and branded to put a smile on my face ( Ermm but that doesn’t mean that you can get me something from DAISO on my birthday -_- !).

My all time favorite CNY must have is the Pineapple Tarts!

The other day, I only mentioned it to Kelly casually and she went to bought me one!

The trip to BKK

Sorry for the late updates!

Mainly because I’m busy (lazy)!

January been great so far! I went to Bangkok for a short 4 days 3 nights getaway with my cousins over the last weekend. It was a fruitful trip! I managed to cover grounds that I wasn’t able to 4 years ago!

JJ market is still as interesting, with so much, if not, even much more things to see and explore!

I ate authentic Thai food this time round @ Cabbages and Condoms.

An X-mas Tree made up of white condoms… Usually their X-mas decorations be up for a month, I think!

Mr Ho Ho Ho and a Bride made of condoms! How interesting is that =)

Haha free condoms!

Ying Qi managed to get us a great hotel, going at $50 per pax, per night!

See that door over there? Just right beside the TV?

That leds to… MY ROOM! Haha

It was quite a great catch! We have 2 bedrooms, with 2 toilets, a living room and 3 TVs to ourselves! And ermmm 2 washing machines!

I didn’t buy a lot this time round. The only highlight was I stepped out of my ‘comfort zone’ and bought Ali Baba pants.

My good friend, PY and another friend, Jeremy, told me months ago that I can wear those pants because of my height! Me being the usual Virgoan, remains skeptical about it!

I bought that pair from Platinum Mall for only less than 15 bucks! I figure if I can’t pull the look off, I will only be wasting $15 haha…

And I like it!

Okay! Don’t ask me why am I having Dim Sum in Bangkok! I ain’t the remotest clue too!

I was pleasantly surprised that the Char Siew Bun there is good!

I learn to appreciate more after I came back from the trip! I’m thankful that I’m living in such a safe and clean country!  =)

Planeswalker Card

Jace, the Mind Sculptor from Worldwake of the Zendikar  block.

Planeswalker cards were introduced in the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Block in 2007. That was also the time whereby we decided to call it quits. Mainly because we have other things to do and less time to meet up for Magic.

And trust me! Collecting Magic Cards takes up quite alot of time. The cards in the booster pack are randomly inserted! You have to discard the useless ones, and organize the good ones into the 5 different colors.

With each colors, comes Enchantment, Sorcery, Instant, Artifact, Land, and Creature which by the way, there are quite a number of creature type.

One will also have to think of ways to improve his deck. In short, its a time consuming hobby.

Ying Qi, Jason and Dick Sheng sold off their collection. I was unable to sell mine, or rather, D.S is too lazy to help me sell mine. Genki kept his collection of black cards. That was in 2007. We came out of retirement in 2011, I will touch on this in another entry =)

A new type of card rarity was added  in the  Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block. It’s called Mythic Rare which meant rarer than rare. There’s usually only 1? or maybe 2? in a box of 36 booster packet.

Planeswalker card added a new way of playing Magic. Usually they can fetch quite a good price. The above card cost $130 at one point.

3 more example of Planeswalker card!

Probably the oldest planeswalker in the world of Magic, Nicol Bolas!

For people who likes Elves, there’s an Elven Planeswalker – Nissa Revane!

This artwork kind of reminds me of my friend, Ming Yong. Haha Chandra Nalaar!

There are, of course other Planeswalker. I will post them next time =)

Silver Seraph – Same Plane, Different Characters

Odyssey came out after the events in Apocalypse. The story takes place in the same plane, just that it saw the introduction of new characters.

I didn’t get a lot of booster packs in this whole block as nothing really caught my eye! The only Angel card which I bought was from the last set Judgement.

Yup! Another masterpiece drawn by Matthew D.Wilson.
