OHAIYO!!!

Welcome back, and to the 2nd Episode of the Cooking Series in our Mad Season 1!!!
Hope you had fun trying out the stuff in the previous episodes of the various series!!!

For today!!!
It was early rise and shine as Ving attempted in making breakfast!! I decided to try out the pancake mix from Betty Crocker for this meal. 1st Step:
Mix the Pancake Mix with water, according to the proportions given at the back of the box. I added in some chopped bananas too for my pancakes. 2nd Step:
Scoop a portion using a ladle, and pour onto the non-stick pan that’s already smeared with some cooking oil.
Let it sizzles till bubbles form on the pancake, then flip over.
Unknowingly, I created a new invention.
It is called “The Scrambled Pancakes”.

I’ve also prepared some other ingredients to go with the Scrambled Pancakes for a heartier breakfast. And here’s Ving’s style of a hearty breakfast to begin the day with!!
(Yes. I actually attempted the Scrambled Pancakes 4 times, and the 5th time the pancake was made by putting it into the oven.) Verdict:
1st attempt at making the Scrambled Pancakes was actually the best, and it wasn’t even done on purpose.
It still does taste like normal pancakes, just without the ‘standard’ look.
The way to do it was just too scrambled it up when it’s half-cooked and threatening to stick onto your pan.
Give it a couple of flips too in making sure the mixture’s been cooked thoroughly. You can serve with some jam too.
Enjoy!!!!!

BONJOUR!!!

Welcome back, and to Episode 2 of the Beauty Series in our Mad Season 1!!!
Hope you’ve enjoyed the previous episodes of our various series so far!!!

For today!!!
Ving took up the challenge of helping her sidekick Ginzy (pronounced as Gin-Gee) cover her uncountable amount of white hair with DIY hairdye.
L’oreal recently came up with this new Fashion series of hairdye colors, hence we decided to give it a shot.
Me like the Black+Gold color theme…….
1st Step:
Apply the “Protective Pre-Color Serum” onto dry hair. Leave it in. No need to wash off.

2nd Step:
Mix the “Protective Creme Colorant” and “Creme Developer” together well.

3rd Step:
Put on the plastic gloves that are provided.

4th Step:
Apply the mixture onto hair evenly.
Verdict:
The color actually turns out rather nicely.
However, it doesn’t help much in covering white hair. It only did for the 1st day, but subsequently the white hair became obvious again.
The best color to cover white hair is actually still black color, which can hide white hair for a longer period of time.
This range is still worth a try if you aren’t looking at covering white hair.
Plus it does smell nice too!!

Do stay tuned for the 2nd Episode of our Cooking Series to be out on this Friday!!!

ELLO!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back, and to Episode 2 of the Building Series in our Mad Season 1!!!
Hope you’ve enjoyed the previous episodes of our series so far!!!

For today!!!
Ving attempted to build up this Wooden Watermill from its kit!
I like this type of hands-on toys actually, that requires you to use your brain and common sense while fixing it up.
It was rather popular when I was young (oops did I just revealed my age??) before all the electronic products/toys took over, and cost bit more as compared to present times.
I bought the colored ice cream sticks as well coz I thought of building up a fence around this Watermill for an additional effect.
It reminded me of the times when my Art teacher will tell us to make artworks using ice cream sticks, and have them painted as last time we just used the normal brown colored ones.
Ahhh…. Nostalgia….

Here are the pieces as well as instructions (or the lack there of) for fixing up the Watermill.

While I was building it up along the way, frustration soon set in.
I came to realise that the pieces weren’t cut up according to accurate measurements, so there was actually some difficulty trying to fit them all together properly without the whole thing falling apart.
It did fall apart quite a number of times, after which I had to try and secure them again and again.
So if you wanna buy the exact same piece to build up at home, you might wanna prepare some glue to secure the parts together (although you aren’t supposed to or required to use glue for such models).

Anyways!!
After all the extra unnecessary hassle, I managed to fix it up rather decently.
Ended up I didn’t do up the colorful fence to surround the Watermill, coz this already made me spend quite abit of time.
Will keep the ice cream sticks for next round!!

Verdict:
It’s still a fun process fixing such models up, though there were hiccups along the way.
I’ll still buy other designs to build if I’ve more space in my room haha…..
I might even consider painting them too! For a more personal touch to the final product.

HARLOW!!!

Welcome back, and to the 3rd series of our Mad Season 1!!!
As can be guessed from the heading, this 3rd series will be about Cooking!!!
In the different episodes, Ving will try to cook various dishes but without much recipes!
So mostly will be based on gut feel/past experiences/limited knowledge hahaha…….

For today!!!
Ving tried to prepare a western-style dinner of wraps and soup!
Firstly, grocery shopping for ingredients………
Of
coz this whole lot isn’t just for one meal (I’m stocking up the fridge!!).

Ingredients needed:
Wraps / Mushrooms / Hotdogs / Picnic Ham / Red-skin Potatoes / Corn / Mozzarella Cheese (shredded) / Lettuce / Onions / Milk / Basil / Salsa Sauce / Butter

Optional:
Grapes / Cherry Tomatoes / Sparkling Juice or Wine

1st Step:
Cut up all the ingredients needed. *Chop chop chop*
Here are some other ingredients already cut up for the wrap’s filling, namely Mushrooms / Hotdogs / Picnic Ham.
As well as Corn for Corn-on-the-Cob!
2nd Step:
Cooking potato soup. Place the chopped up Potatoes into a pot, together with half a carton of Milk as well as the Mozzarella Cheese.
(Using Mozzarella Cheese will make the soup have a light cheese taste. If you prefer a stronger cheese taste, you can choose Parmesan Cheese instead.)
3rd Step:
After boiling for awhile, add in some finely chopped Basil leaves to the soup. Leave it to boil slowly while you prepare the wraps.
4th Step:
Pre-heat oven to 180°C for couple of minutes. Place some Mozzarella Cheese on a Wrap, then put it into the oven that has been pre-heated. Heat the Wrap for about 5 minutes.
5th Step:
While the Wrap’s getting heated in the oven, stir-fry the filling for it.
Instead of using cooking oil, I used some Butter for a change.
After the Butter melted, throw the cut Onions into the pot and stir-fry.
Then throw the Mushrooms, Hotdogs and Picnic Ham in and stir-fry all together.
6th Step:
Apply some Butter and Salt all over the Corn, and wrap it up with Aluminium Foil. Heat it in the oven for about 20 minutes.
7th Step:
SERVE ALL!!!
Verdict:
It’s yummy!!! Hahaha…..
The whole process took about 1.5 hour, including preparing the ingredients. It’s actually quite easy to make, so everyone should give this a shot!!!

Do stay tuned for the 2nd Episode of our Building Series on coming Monday!!

HELLO!!!

Welcome back and to the 2nd series of our Mad Season 1!!!
If you’ve already guessed from the heading, this 2nd series will be about Beauty!!
We’ll be touching on different aspects of Beauty for this series, so we hope it can be like a surprise for you when you come back to check out new episodes (as of the same for the other 2 series too).

For today!!!
Ving recently tried out this Character Print Nail Art set from Korea which was a gift from sidekick Ginzy.
It looks really interesting!

The instructions were in Korean though. But based on the images provided, you’ll be able to understand quite easily the proper way to do this nail art.
So!! Based on my understanding, here’s how we do it……………….

1st step: Apply 2 layers of the white nail polish onto your nails.
2nd step: While waiting for the nail polish to dry, you can cut out small pieces of the pattern design which you would like to have on your nails.
For me, I chose a cupcakes design as well as this cute skulls design (not pictured below).
(Plus a random cameo by Zown de Clown.)
3rd step: Apply the Transfer Solution (hot pink bottle) onto a small piece of the design which you’d cut out earlier (on the side with the pattern). Then press it onto your nail before the solution dries up.

This step’s bit tricky. After I tried on few of my nails, I realised that it’ll be better if you apply a layer of the solution onto the flip side of the patterned paper as well while it’s on your nail.
Reason being that the paper will actually get stuck onto your nails too together with the design.
Applying onto the flip side as well will help the design to get stuck onto your nails better, and reduces the chances of the paper getting stuck together.
Think of it as trying to ‘paste’ those temporary tattoos onto your skin.

Here are the 1st 2 nails which I tried on with the skull pattern, which didn’t come out that nicely and obvious.
After ‘pasting’ on the cupcakes design as well, which not the full pattern came out too.

Conclusion: It’s still worth trying! Just that it’ll require some practise before you’ll be able to get the perfect full pattern onto your nails. Still can be a fun activity for a girly night-in with your girlfriends!! ^_^

Finally….. Our Mad Season 1 is ready and up!!!
In this season, we will have 3 different series each week for our viewers, spanning over a period of 8 weeks.
I shan’t reveal the other 2 series as of yet, so do check back here for new updates!! =D

So…. The 1st series will be the Building Series, namely building up different types of items as we go along.
Very hands-on and DIY!

For our 1st episode, Ving will be fixing up this wooden shelf which was bought from a supermarket for only $8.90 after discount!!
So affordable!!
Here are the wooden planks and screws provided in the flat box which they came in.
(Tool box and screwdriver not included.)
After fixing up the dividers of the shelf….
Then adding in the backings for the shelf….
Last step was to screw on the last long wooden plank for the side of the shelf…
And viola!!!
You get a rather solid and stable wooden shelf for you house!
The whole process took only 20-odd minutes for me to complete fixing it up!
SUCCESS!!!
The result of all the screwing (*ahem* pun not intended)……….
If you do not fancy this beech wood kind of color, you can actually get some paint and color it the way you like it to be!
(Which we might actually do it for another episode of our Mad Season series hahaha… *winks*)
Start building up something today!! ^_^

Lastly, do stay tuned for the 1st episode of our 2nd series which will be up on this Wednesday!!! *throws confetti*

.let’s.all.practise.recycling.

As my heading suggests, everyone of us should incorporate recycling into our daily routine.
Personally, I’ve been doing that since I-forgot-from-when-onwards.
During my childhood times, my dad had already drilled this into my mind, be it through his own actions or words.
It’s a good thing that nowadays more and more people are aware of how the 3Rs (Reuse / Reduce / Recycle) can benefit our dear Earth.
So much so that we now have organisations going around collecting recycling materials every fortnightly, or having recycling containers being placed at strategic places around our country at our convenience.

For my block, the organisation comes by every fortnight on Friday mornings to collect our recycling materials, plus give us new bags to contain more recycling stuff for the next round of collection.
My family has since been even more diligent in sorting out the different recycling materials into different bags before the staff comes by to collect.
It’s amazing how much papers/plastic/metal we can collect in 2 weeks’ time without realising.

Recently, my side-kick Ginzy found another place where we can actually sell these recycling materials for cash!
So we decided to bring some stuff over to recycle.
On my side, I brought over 3 bags of old clothes to ‘sell’.
Based on this chart, I got $2.60 for my 3 bags of old clothes that weighed 13kg in all!
Ginzy earned $0.70 for her 7kg of newspapers heh…
They have this poster there to tell you more about why we should practise the 3Rs.
We plan to go for this once every fortnight so that there’s more time for us to collect more recycling materials!
Here’s what we’ve accumulated in just one week!
Everyone of us should do our part in saving the environment, in any ways possible.
Every bit counts, no matter how small.
So let’s start practising the 3Rs if you haven’t already!
It’s never too late! =D

.if.ving.can.cook.,.so.can.you.!.(.part.2.0.).

http://youtu.be/LEcN8kCUg2A

So Ving took up a challenge in preparing a potluck feast for 12 adults and 4 kids.
Time for grocery shopping!
You think that’s all??
There’s more!! (Looking like an overload of Enoki mushrooms.)
The dishes prepared are….. *drum roll*

1. Chilled Tofu Salad
(tofu + cherry tomatoes + japanese sauce)
2. Cabbage Soup
(cabbage + corn + baby carrots + white radish + enoki mushrooms + onions + white pepper + sea salt + sugar)
3. Honey Chicken Drumlets
(drumlets + honey + soy sauce + chinese wine)
** Too chaotic that day forgot to take pictures of this dish!!

4. Herb-spiced Mid-joints
(mid-joints + mixed fresh herbs + honey + black pepper + soy sauce + sea salt)
5. Stir-fry Vegetables
(broccoli + capsicums + fishballs + enoki mushrooms + garlic + onions + oyster sauce + sea salt + sugar)
6. Pan-seared Dory Fillets with Sauteed Mushrooms
(dory fillets + shimeji mushrooms + onions + garlic + olive oil + black pepper + sea salt)
7. Stir-fry Soba with Asparagus & Mushrooms
(dried soba noodles + asparagus + white button mushrooms + garlic + sesame oil + japanese soy sauce + sugar)
8. Stir-fry Angel’s Hair Pasta
(angel’s hair pasta + baby carrots + corn + garlic + olive oil + black pepper + sea salt)
9. Grass Jelly & Longans Dessert
(grass jelly + longans)
Conclusion:
It was totally not easy cooking for such a big group of people!
Kind of estimated the portions wrongly haha so there were quite a bit of leftovers, plus it can get real chaotic in the kitchen.
Also, the sequence in cooking the different dishes needed to be planned out proper.
Nonetheless, it was an awesome first time experience!
(Though after this, Ving stayed away from the kitchen for about two weeks, not wanting to lay hands on the pots and pans at all.)
